An evidence-based approach for teaching written expression.

Friday 12 August, 9:00am – 3:30pm

This two-day workshop offers teachers an overview of the T4W approach and provides opportunities for hands-on participation in the steps of this exceptionally effective instructional approach.

It includes planning, both for a unit of work, based on instructional needs of the student and at a whole-school level; exploring the ‘Three I’s’ which are the basis of the Talk for Writing approach and providing effective feedback, accurate assessment and the development of grammatical skills.

Interstate participants please be aware SPELD SA is unable to mark off participation for interstate eductional accreditation (eg NESA & TQI)

Presenters:

Susie Hillard
Susie is a Primary and Secondary trained teacher, specialising in English and Social Sciences.  She has worked in schools in both England and Australia, assisting to guide the implementation of Talk for Writing.   Susie now works as a literacy specialist at DSF, providing training, consultation and mentoring to teachers, other professionals and schools in Talk for Writing.  Susie is passionate about the TfW approach after seeing the incredible achievements from students in her own classroom and the impact it has on children’s reading and writing progress at all levels.

Wes Cutajar
Wes is a DSF Talk for Writing trainer and primary school teacher. He is committed to using research and evidence-based approaches to improve academic outcomes for all students.  Wes has worked in both specialist and classroom teacher roles from K-6, and has experience in technology-focused school contexts. Prior to joining the DSF Talk for Writing team, he worked effectively as part of School Leadership teams and as a curriculum coach improving teacher practice.
